Number Theory

Number theory is a branch of pure mathematics that deals with the properties of numbers. Earlier only involved with the study of counting numbers 1, 2, 3, … during the Greek era, number theory grew in recent times to encompass study of properties of other kinds of numbers, like rational, irrational and real.

Through ages, scholars have found the subject interesting since the simple sequence of numbers from one to infinity contained many hidden relationships. The study of prime numbers in particular had invited a lot of attention from mathematicians. With the rise of computers, number theory has found applications in modern cryptography and coding systems.
